After he was assassinated, before the march and occupation took place, his leadership role was assumed by Ralph Abernathy. It's a fascinating bit of history that captured headlines at the time, but I've rarely heard anything about it over the years. What an important part of the world he has been in guiding us toward justice and equality. The man was killed, but his words live forever to give us hope and direction. According to CNN and Newsweek, "King wrote five books and delivered about 450 speeches a year." And, "his words still carry power for activists, politicians, journalists and everyday Americans..." It's rather mind boggling just how many of his words are forever a part of the fabric of our lives--then, now, and to continue into the future. So, it is indeed hard to choose just one quote as a favorite. Each one of the quotes already listed here today are favorites and amazing and a part of my memory bank of what's good in the world.

To come up with a favorite quote that hasn't already been stated, I think I'll go with the following two:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” 1963
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, 1964

The second quote listed above especially gives me hope for our country today.

Kathy Reelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17004247271452356577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-48808288579699319492018-01-15T12:33:19.374-05:002018-01-15T12:33:19.374-05:00Those are great, Jim!Those are great, Jim!Ingrid Thofthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04063912686011336076noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-28084369974633196982018-01-15T12:16:10.424-05:002018-01-15T12:16:10.424-05:00If anyone needs additional inspiration today, I hi...If anyone needs additional inspiration today, I highly recommend going to see Darkest Hour.Deborah Crombiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16988750789088153601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-43030762239723267892018-01-15T12:14:05.443-05:002018-01-15T12:14:05.443-05:00Happy birthday, Melinda!Happy birthday, Melinda!Deborah Crombiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16988750789088153601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-2398320004647701562018-01-15T11:46:05.161-05:002018-01-15T11:46:05.161-05:00Thank you, Edith.
