I was very kindly helped in my research by a wonderful artist in Arizona named Darcy Falk, and your process sounds very similar to Darcy's as she explained it to me. I hope I've done you both justice.

Although I don't quilt myself, I'd like to learn. My good friend who is a quilter describes that middle of the quilt/book slump as "ugly quilt syndrome." Nice to know we all go through it!

Congratulations on your success!Deborah Crombiehttp://www.deborahcrombie.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-31754544042793724822011-02-04T14:15:40.284-05:002011-02-04T14:15:40.284-05:00This is an excellent interview, Roberta. I LOVE hearing the similarities in the creative process --and how you overcome the frustrations.

Sometimes I think its so much easier to hear and really understand when its a different form of the creative process.

PS. I've always wanted to make a quilt, but can never get past the part where you really need to work on a sewing machine.

I also have a good friend who is a quilter and i'm leaving here to email her to come read this today -- I'm sure she'll love your insights about the process.Jan Broganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11323983086318138814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-62770111957266146492011-02-04T12:14:35.471-05:002011-02-04T12:14:35.471-05:00I am overwhelmed by the many compliments and words...I am overwhelmed by the many compliments and words of encouragement from all of you. I think it's such a widespread longing among women--okay, I've had the house and the kids and the white picket fence, now what? It take a lot of courage to move from a place you've been comfortable in in your life and strike out for new territory--especially if striking out involves leaving a job.Julia Spencer-Fleminghttp://www.juliaspencerfleming.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-74199969700810085762011-02-04T11:12:54.248-05:002011-02-04T11:12:54.248-05:00This is actually from PJ Schott, who had trouble p...This is actually from PJ Schott, who had trouble posting a comment:

Loved the Quilt Art Author. Tried to leave a comment about being inspired by the role of quilts in the Civil War's underground railroad. Great advice about being blocked and letting it go to bake a pie. Music, literature, painting, sculputre, fiber art... they all come from the same source and travel through the artist in the same way. However, I've not seen anything as lovely as the quilts pictured here. How wonderful. I'm at a point of frustration with one of my characters and am letting him 'hang on the wall'. Hopefully I will soon love him again.
Thanks for the reminder that all creative process is made of things like frustration, inspiration, and the hard fought battle for excellent results.Maryannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04201498842123361209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1001156153899984046.post-4665928881674946042011-02-04T09:57:46.110-05:002011-02-04T09:57:46.110-05:00OH, wonderful! I love quilts, have collected them for ages, and even tried to sew one (it started out as a quilt for a double bed and ended up a baby quilt). We have quilts all over the house, hanging on walls, draped over chairs, on the beds, etc. and I always envy the people who have this talent.

The closest I've ever come to doing anything resembling the art you do was taking a mixed media collage class with Cathy Taylor.
