My book is on the way, Jenn. I like all of the promos, and any one of them could entice me to check a book out. I definitely am most drawn in by book quotes. I hardly ever read anyone else's reviews althoughposting them that way will get my attention. But I want to know what a book is about before I buy it. A very few writers are automatic pre-orders for me. Those authors are very reliable storytellers whose books I want to keep or share with my friends. Jenn, I think I own all 60 of your books in one version or another.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your (wow!) 60th book! I am in awe. This one sounds like such a winner—I’ve got it on my Kindle, ready to go. I was hooked the first time you previewed the synopsis, so I’m not a good candidate for choosing teaser videos, but I’d say the review video would be the most likely to make me want to find out more.
ReplyDeleteI'm patiently waiting for my library hold to come in so I can check out (literally and figuratively!) your new book. I much prefer book blurbs/descriptions vs the video craze that seems to be gaining strength. I suspect those are aimed at a younger demographic than I. I confess that if a favorite author shows interest in a book, it will entice me to read a few pages to see if the writing style and topic interest me. Hurray for your 60th book! ReplyDeleteI agree with Victoria and other commenters above: I almost never click on a video for a book. In fact the three of yours I just viewed may possibly be the first. Fortunately, all it takes is Jenn McKinlay on the cover to sell me. You write across so many genres that of course some appeal to my taste more than others, but no matter the genre I can always count on Jenn for a well written, warm book with at least a touch of humor. And that's a lot!!!

ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever watched a book promo video. I must say, though, the sea turtle hatching one would be my choice. I have a friend in Florida who volunteers regularly to help little hatchlings get to the sea.
I need no enticement to read a new Jenn McKinley book…. 60… wowza!! Love the premise and the big thing that makes me read a new book is having read their earlier one. And I love Jenn’s style and sly humor and heart.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting! And as an and Al lover, I’ll definitely be ordering this book! I tend to read books that are recommended by readers (like JRR) who share my genre interests. I’m not a video watcher, but I do understand how this would be attention grabbing for those who are!

ReplyDeleteLike others, I don't watch videos and they wouldn't entice me to buy a book. A name I know, a recommendation from a friend - including here - or a blurb by an author I love - those are what draw me to a new author.
60 books, Jenn! I am gobsmacked!! But what a treasure trove for us fans! And I don't need a book promo to get me to buy A SUMMER SHARE because my copy is already in my hot little hands. But if I did, it would probably be the review quote. Now, excuse me, I have a book to read!

ReplyDeleteRegarding book promotions, I remember getting postcards in the mail with book covers of the new books from my favorite authors. I also look at book quotes.
Joining others … no video would entice me to buy a book (or anything else). Author reputation, written reviews, blogs like Jungle Reds, and maybe, sometimes, a Poison Pen interview. A lover of sea turtles I would at least view that video. Congratulations on The Summer Share, Jenn. May everyone share this book! Elisabeth

ReplyDeleteLove these. I love book videos, and watch them all the time. And I think they can be quite persuasive. I think these are ALL good, but they seem to be for very different books. The turtle is for a kinda sweet/funny book, very light. The second sounds more like a bigger book, more literary. The third, which is really fun to read, is flat-out romance. (And I get the conflict in the sell the cottage reference.) If I were a romance reader, I would DEF pick the third one.

60 books! I'm fainting! I love THE SUMMER SHARE: when I showed it to my daughter she said, "It's every millennials fantasy - finding true love and owning a house. Not necessarily in that order."
ReplyDeleteI'm fascinated by the rise of videos for everything - I just listened to an episode of Today, Explained titled "Everything is clips now." I don't get it, because I either like to read, or to listen (while I do something else.) But I guess even those of us who don't understand it need to get on it because it's the way so many readers find books now!

ReplyDeleteThe video you posted is a little difficult for me because there is just too much going on. I was distracted by Dolly Parton's musical story and wanting to follow it, then trying to read and comprehend what I was reading all at the same time.
I like the sea turtle. It is calming, not an over sell, and piques my interest.
In reality, when looking for a good read, I go to the library or book store and read the cover flap, then read a few pages and often talk to the bookseller for their thoughts.
Congratulations on your 60th book! What a huge milestone. Hope you made a bad breakfast choice to celebrate it!
