Julia's Public Service Announcement: Get Vaccinated!

LUCY BURDETTE: We are sad to report that our Julia is deathly ill with the return of Covid. (Sounds like a horror movie doesn't it? it is!) While she rests and recovers, she urges the rest of us to get vaccinated! I got mine last week and yes, I felt lousy for a couple of days, but nothing like she's suffering.

Meanwhile, here's her gorgeous new cover, and a page to pre-order, and here's a link to her last writing post in case you didn't get a chance to read it...

  4. Oh no! I had it for the first time in July and am not a fan. I wish I could send a box of tea and cookies!

  6. An important reminder about all vaccines that protect not only the people receiving them, but also those around them.
Many of us have become complacent in following through with getting booster shots for these illnesses because we are not getting regular updates about the fact that the potential to contract them is still there.
We must also speak up about areas in which the vaccines have been denied to people who want and need them but have been unable to get them because some government officials instead of medical professionals are controlling the access to who is eligible.

  8. Not good. And that grandbaby is arriving soon. Rapid healing.

  9. Julia may you be blessed with a swift recovery and no lingering effects. Also, for those who don't know, unlike in earlier years you must have a doctor's Rx to get a COVID shot outside of the doc's office. That applies even if you are 65 and older. In addition, if you use an outside source at your pharmacy, a pharmacist is the only one who can administer the injection. No such barriers in place for the flu shot. Got mine yesterday. -- Victoria

    1. I think it depends on what state you are in. Here in Connecticut, you can walk into a pharmacy. No need for a prescription.

    2. We can still get vaccines without an Rx in Ohio, too. I have had both flu and Covid vaccines in the last three weeks.

    3. You can walk in anywhere in California and still get the Covid vaccine. All you need is $, not all insurance companies are paying for it now.

  10. Best wishes, Julia and get well soon – you have a baby to welcome.
I am so happy that in Canada that vaccines are free and there for the taking. In another month we will be getting the latest Covid booster, this year’s flu, and RSV. I think shingles may be there as well. If we are all vaccinated, we all live in a safer world.

  11. Oh no! I truly hope things are not as dire as they sound. On Wednesday I got my flu shot and I have an appointment for the covid booster next week.

Please get better soon, Julia. We need you.

People should know that not all states require a prescription.

  14. Horrified to read that you are deathly sick, Julia! I have heard that the latest iteration of Covid is a bear.

I inquired about shots at our local pharmacy two weeks ago and was told I needed a doctor's prescription due to Bob (I have now decided there was only one "Bobby") Kennedy's ignorant war on vaccines. However, Gov. Hochul has now signed an order in NYS making it possible to get Covid boosters as usual and I will be going in soon. Feel better! I hope you have access to Paxlovid. When my husband brought home Covid for Christmas, we both took it and had good results. It didn't make us feel better but shortened the misery. (Selden)

  15. This morning I was worried that there was no new JRW post. So sorry to learn that Julia is very sick and hope that she feels better soon. I already preordered her book. We all are definitely getting vaccinated, right?

  17. Whoa. You had me reeling from the "we're sad to report" beginning of that. Julia, I hope you heal up soon and easily! Sending hugs

I had my flu vaccine and my new covid vaccine one week ago. Luckily I'm not the type to have a strong reaction to the covid vaccine. I'm leaning heavily on Hugh to get his, even though he always gets a bad reaction. Better than getting sick from the actual disease!
