Jungle Reds books under your tree?

HALLIE EPHRON: Just in case Santa brought you a gift card and you're wondering what to get, here's a few of the latest books from the Jungle Reds to fill your now empty stocking.

Jenn McKinlay
It's murder by the book in the latest hit Library Lover's mystery. When a stack of library materials is found at the scene of a hit and run, library director Lindsey Norris finds herself dragged into the investigation as the police try to link the driver of the stolen car to the person who borrowed the books.

Rhys Bowen
As the Great War continues to take its toll, headstrong twenty-one-year-old Emily Bryce is determined to contribute to the war effort. She is convinced by a cheeky and handsome Australian pilot that she can do more, and it is not long before she falls in love with him and accepts his proposal of marriage. When he is sent back to the front, Emily volunteers as a “land girl,” tending to the neglected grounds of a large Devonshire estate. It’s here that Emily discovers the long-forgotten journals of a medicine woman…

Deborah Crombie
On a beautiful morning in mid-May, the body of a young woman is found in one of Notting Hill’s private gardens. To passersby, the pretty girl in the white dress looks as if she’s sleeping. But Reagan Keating has been murdered... #17 Duncan Kincaid & Jemma James mystery

Hank Phillippi Ryan
Hank’s first standalone. An accused killer insists she's innocent of a heinous murder. A grieving journalist surfaces from the wreckage of her shattered life. Their unlikely alliance leads to a dangerous cat and mouse game that will leave you breathless.

Julia Spencer Fleming
THROUGH THE EVIL DAYS
Friday, January 9th. A middle-of-the-night call wakes Episcopal priest Clare Fergusson and her husband, Police Chief Russ van Alstyne: a farmhouse has erupted in flames, killing the couple sleeping indoors. A tragedy for the Adirondack mountain town of Millers Kill.
But a darker, more evil current quickly emerges…

Lucy Burdette
The latest Key West Food Critic mystery. Food critic Hayley Snow is thrilled to be working at a three-day international conference at the Harry S. Truman Little White House. But things get off to a bad start when Hemingway’s Nobel prize gold medal (which belongs to Cuba and is on display for this weekend only) disappears. And they only get worse when a body is discovered in the storeroom. Hayley must spring into action before the killer adds another victim to his menu.

Hallie Ephron
Lissie Woodham was only seven years old when her little sister Janey disappeared. They had been in the front yard, playing with their dolls, custom creations made for them by their mother Miss Sorrel, a famous dollmaker. Lissie wandered off for a moment. When she returned to the yard, Janey was gone, and so was her doll. Forty years later, the doll comes back.

Happy Day After Christmas!! AKA Enjoy Leftovers Day.

  4. No book gift cards for me this year. So I'll have to try and get the remaining books on my 2018 book list the old fashioned way.

  5. I've read several of these and am looking forward to reading the others! But sadly I did not receive even one book gift card!

  7. Or, if you've already read all of these, you could hoard that gift card (I'll assume Santa was generous with you) until the new year when all these excellent writers will be coming out with NEW titles! I've had a sneak peek at "A Bitter Feast" and it would be a shame if you ruined your appetite before the publishers serve it up.

  8. Thank you for the idea. My mother gave me a gift card for my birthday in October and I've been dragging it around since. I'm going to add it as a payment option on my Barnes and Noble account, and add some of these titles to my Nook!

  16. Today is known as Boxing Day in the UK. I got books for Christmas and already started reading a book from the Christmas gift books. I discovered a new author, Jenny Colgan. She wrote The Bookshop on the Corner. I am reading Christmas on the Island, which takes place on the Island of Mure, off the northern coast of Scotland. Your list of books look wonderful! I think I have read all of the novels listed by the Jungle Reds.

Hope everyone is enjoying the leftovers.

  17. I've read all of these except Jenn's upcoming (can't wait!)but I think I need to reread Julia's Through the Evil Days, in preparation for Hid From Our Eyes, hopefully coming later in the year.

No gift cards for me (boo) but my daughter gave me Ann Mah's instant pot cookbook, Instantly French, and I gave her the new Louise Penny, Kingdom of the Blind, which I expect I'll get to read after her:-)

At the moment, I'm reading C.C. Benison's Eleven Pipers Piping on my Kindle--love these Father Tom Christmas books.

    1. One of the joys of giving books to fellow readers--getting a chance to read those same books later! My mom and my sisters were great at passing on books to share.

    2. I'm so far behind on Louise Penny. Can I get in line behind you?

    3. Of course! We'll give you plenty of time to catch up to the new book:-)

  18. Happy St. Stephen's Day! We had a wonderful day yesterday with 18 guests, and I totally killed it this morning and afternoon, getting most everything picked up, washed and back in place.

Youngest and I said goodbye to the Sailor and his sweet girlfriend - we're talking about traveling down to Virginia to see him one last time before his 7 month deployment. It was lovely having both of them here in Maine.

I am heating up leftover butternut squash soup for my delayed lunch, after which I will settle down for the rest of the afternoon with my feet up and a glass of wine at hand, reading my new Jack Reacher thriller! I can't think of a better way to wrap up the festivities.

I’ve read all the Reds books to date except for Jenn’s. I keep trying to catch up but you are just too prolific!

  20. I got a bag full of books, which I always give to myself at Christmas, and I will be doing a blog post about them next week.

Yesterday, I received the awful news that my sister had died. Now both of my sisters are gone. I will probably be hit and miss the next week or so on here and other Internet places. The funeral is Saturday, an all in one day visitation and funeral and burial. She will be laid to rest with our other sister and our parents, which is what she wanted. It was unexpected, but then isn't it always.

    5. Kathy, I am so sorry. It’s not easy to lose a sister, especially at the holidays; to lose two is just awful.

      We’ll be thinking of you.

    6. Thank you all so much for your kind words and love. My sisters were somewhat older than me (I'm the baby of the family and brother is three years older). Arretta Ann was ten years older, and Jerrye Jo, the sister I've just lost, was eight years older. But, Jerrye Jo and I had a special bond as I was growing up, and one's growing up years are so important. From what I can gather so far, she died of a brain aneurysm, so she must have been going along doing something and then she just went. For some reason I keep wanting to know what she was doing when everything stopped. Was she getting something ready for Christmas? I like to think that's what she was doing, something she loved.

    7. Kathy, I lost my only brother (and only sibling) this year, too, so I know how hard this must be. Thinking of you.

  21. Kathy, I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my only brother last year. My sister-in-law was sick on Christmas, and I didn't see all my friends yet so I hope I get some Barnes and Noble gift cards. I took advantage of the buy $75 worth of gift cards and get a $10 one free. Barnes and Noble mailed me another $10 card. I did get some grocery and restaurant gift cards. Food and books - that's about all I need.
