FRIDAY FUNNIES

JENN McKINLAY: Hi, it's me with the Friday funnies again. I've curated my latest belly laughs from social media and life because dang it 2024 has been off to a rocky start for some of us, so let's take a beat and have a laugh.

So, this video is mine. I posted it to my Instagram story this week and it was wildly popular so I'll share with you with the back story:

I walk my dogs every day on different paths through the neighborhood to keep it interesting--for everyone involved. Well, on this one particular street, this pooch feels compelled to greet us when we walk by. These block fences are six feet tall and no, there is no trampoline.

The first time it scared the snot out of me, but now I greet him/her (IDK) by singing Adele's lyrics, "Hello...it's me." I laugh every time this dog pops up even though I expect it now.

Here is a new discovery for me. This Instagrammer is hiiiiilarious. She anthropomorphs everything from fonts to human inventions and she is sooooo clever. I have rewatched some of these short videos several times just to appreciate all the nuances. Seriously, if you're on Insta, check out Elle Cordova. Here's a link to one of my faves since I can't just post it as I'm respecting copyright: Inventions Hanging Out

And then, of course, there are the good old reliable memes. Here are a few of my recent punny faves!

Happy Friday (we made it!), everyone. What are some things you've seen lately that made you laugh? Drop a link in the comments to share!

Saturday Funnies

JENN McKINLAY: I spent last night without power. This is not unusual for monsoon season in Arizona. We have rolling blackouts, brown outs, and full on power outages. Or we used to. For the past five years we have had a serious lack of weather of any substance. In fact, I think the rainfall in 2020 in the metro area was a whole 5 inches FOR THE YEAR. Last night, during the microburst, we got hit with 2 inches in just one hour. Good times!

Needless to say, I felt the need for some humor to get me through my candlelit storm vigil as all of my people were away from home, stranded wherever they happened to be when the storm hit. So, I share with you a random collection of things that made me laugh, because it is now mid-day Friday and still storming out but at least we have power...for now.

To be clear, I am not laughing at the puppy but rather with the wee lad as I'm quite certain he is my spirit animal. Also, if you're on Twitter, Rex Chapman is an excellent follow for funny posts. And he used "Wait for it" in his retweet, which of course is the title of my upcoming August release - in case, you live under a rock and have missed me mentioning that a bajillion times.

This is for those of you who've traveled with children. It needs no explanation except...I've lived it! This is from the Scary Mommy Book Club on Instagram, another excellent follow for laughs.

Yes, I did pull a perineal tendon on the outside of my ankle while sitting at my desk. No idea how. But when I read this, it all started to make sense. Middle age, indeed.

This gem came from a collection of book related memes gathered on www.bookriot.com. My only thought was - if you think it's terrifying for the reader, try being the author! Eep!!!

Lastly, a nod to my childhood of the 70's/80's. The Bermuda Triangle was a big freaking deal. Didn't Amelia Earhart disappear in there? I share it from the FB page of the ever fabulous author Dakota Cassidy (she is hilarious). If you don't follow her, you should. One of my readers commented, "And I really thought quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem than it's been." LOL! So true!

So, happy Saturday, Reds and Readers! I now have to go pump out my patio...again. I think I'm gonna need some more laughs. Where do you go when you need a quick chuckle to keep the terrors away?

HANK: Okay, I'm "it" now. SO here are my seven things. And, then, to complete our assigned task--we get to tag seven more people to tell all. I have a lot more things I could tell. But I only get seven. Lucky you.

1. I'm probably a workaholic. I never take all the vacation days I'm allotted. I think about work--TV reporter and writing my books--much more than I think about anything else. Sometimes I'll realize I've just stopped talking in the middle of a conversation, because something gave me a good idea, and I'm suddenly in another world.

2. I'm ridiculously competitive and I like to win. Charades, Monopoly, Celebrity, Trivial Pursuit. I won't play Scrabble with my husband any more, because he beats me. I almost got all the badges in Girl Scouts, but I couldn't figure out a way to get "Beekeeper"without being around bees. It was all I could do to let my 4 and a half year old grandson beat me at Fish. And even then I thought Eli should learn about losing. I even like to take standardized tests.

3. I stink at sports. You name it, I stink at it. Tennis. Skiing. Softball. Swimming. Whatever other stuff people all do. I'm terrible. (This is where my competitive streak disappears.) Okay, I'm a pretty good softball pitcher, but I can't bat or catch. Not much call for such specialized playing.

4. I kind of do have, um, ESP. From time to time. Or whatever you call it. I saved someone's life when they tried to kill themselves. I was home. I sat up and thought, oh no. He's in trouble. I called. No answer. I beeped. No answer. I called a neighbor. They called the ambulance. He had taken an overdose of sleeping pills. Another time I had a boyfriend. I was home. He was at his house. I thought: oh no. I called him. No answer. I called his sister. He had been taken to the hospital with a ruptured appendix.
Less dramatic stuff happens all the time. But not always.

5. I can wake myself up at any time with some sort of internal alarm clock. I don't totally rely on it because you never know when this kind of thing is going to stop working. But if I tell myself: I'm going to sleep now, I want to wake up at 7:35 in the morning, I will. On the dot.

6. I'm kind of superstitious about some things. Walking under a ladder, why do it? Throwing spilled salt, why not? Rabbit rabbit, yup. Hat on bed? nope. I kind of like Friday the 13th though. Plus, I believe in life on other planets. And possibly time travel.

7. I don't go to sad movies. I haven't seen Steel Magnolias, or Beaches, or Terms of Endearment. I start crying instantly, within ten minutes, because it's so clear to me what the ending is destined to be. The first movie my husband and I saw together was Sling Blade. Which I hadn't known was touching and emotional.
Few minutes in, I started sniffling. It was obvious this movie was on the path to be devastating. My husband-to-be leaned over and said--"do you have a cold?"
I whispered, "No, I'm crying."
He was baffled. "It's not sad," he said.
"I know," I replied. "But it's going to be sad."
